The festival organizers made the decision after learning that the artist had also scheduled a concert in Moscow.

The Kikumu festival, held annually at Jäneda manor, has become one of Estonia's notable summer music events. Organizers took the stance that performing in Russia while the country wages war against Ukraine is incompatible with the festival's values, making the cancellation unavoidable.

A Guy Called Gerald, born Gerald Simpson, rose to international fame in the late 1980s with his track "Voodoo Ray" and is considered a foundational figure in British electronic dance music. His scheduled appearance at Kikumu had been anticipated by Estonian electronic music fans.

The decision reflects a broader cultural trend seen across Estonia and the wider Baltic region, where venues and festivals have increasingly distanced themselves from artists who continue to perform in Russia. Many European cultural institutions have adopted informal policies against booking performers who maintain active ties with the Russian market amid the ongoing war in Ukraine.
