AI Versions of Churchill, Kahlo, and Gandhi Appeared at Question Time Debate
The British program Question Time opened unusually this week — in a debate about the risks of artificial intelligence, virtual versions of Winston Churchill, Frida Kahlo, and Mahatma Gandhi took part. The episode became a sort of demonstration of the capabilities and questions that modern AI poses to society.
ТехнологииThe British talk show Question Time opened this week in a completely unconventional way: in a discussion about artificial intelligence, the participants were not live guests, but digital images of historical figures created with the help of AI — Winston Churchill, Mexican artist Frida Kahlo, and Indian public figure Mahatma Gandhi.
The choice of characters turned out to be symbolic: all three are known for their principled views and vivid statements, which makes them ideal "interlocutors" when discussing the ethical and social challenges brought about by the development of AI technologies. The virtual debate participants were recreated in such a way as to imitate the manner of speech and argumentation characteristic of each of them.
This format clearly demonstrated both the impressive capabilities of modern artificial intelligence and the associated risks — in particular, questions about the accuracy of the statements being reproduced and how ethical it is to put words in the mouths of real historical figures. This is especially relevant in the context of growing public concern about the spread of deepfakes and information manipulation.
