Ants Find Their Way into Bedroom During Nest Searches

As seasons change, ants begin searching for new nests and can find their way into apartment bedrooms. These tiny visitors may even appear in bedrooms where they collectively decide whether to establish a home.

As spring arrives and temperatures warm, ants actively search for nesting sites, which can lead them to unexpected places – including apartment bedrooms. One nature observer describes waking at three in the morning when a tiny black ant had decided to take a stroll across his face.

The previous evening had already held a peculiar surprise for the same observer: a hundred lost ants had gathered on the bedroom doorstep, where they appeared to be communicating with one another about which way to go and whether to build a nest. At least, that's how it appeared to the observer as the ants stood head-to-head in the crack of the doorframe.

Ant nest searches are a natural part of the nature calendar – it is in spring that young females, the so-called queens, begin establishing new nests. City dwellers may notice that these tiny insects find their way into their homes through door gaps, window cracks and other openings. Usually it is just a brief visit until a suitable nesting site is found.
