Baltic states discuss scrapping seasonal clock changes

The transport ministers of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania recently held discussions on a proposal to end seasonal clock changes across the Baltic region. Latvia's Ministry of Transport confirmed the talks, noting that Lithuania put forward the initiative.

The biannual clock adjustment — shifting clocks forward in spring and back in autumn — has been a subject of debate across Europe for years. The European Parliament voted in favour of abolishing the practice back in 2019, but EU member states have yet to reach a unified agreement on implementation.

If the Baltic states were to align on a common position, it could give fresh momentum to broader EU-level discussions on the issue. However, any change would require coordination to avoid a patchwork of different time zones emerging within the region.
