British athlete Beth Littlewood won £149,000 in compensation from an employment tribunal after being forced to drive over 800 miles (approximately 1,300 kilometres) from Germany to a hearing that her supervisor ultimately failed to attend.

Littlewood described the incident as "the last straw" that led to her decision to leave her job. The long and costly drive, followed by her supervisor's failure to appear, constituted intolerable behaviour by her employer, she argued.

The tribunal found that the employer's conduct was unfair and that Littlewood had reasonable grounds to resign on the basis of constructive dismissal. The compensation of £149,000 was awarded to her for damages arising from the employment relationship and other claims.
