Endocrinologist: Obesity is a disease that must be treated early
Endocrinologist Kristina Isand explained that obesity should not be treated as a lifestyle issue, but as a serious disease. Early treatment helps prevent health risks associated with obesity.
ЭстонияEndocrinologist Kristina Isand emphasised in the Estonian television programme "Hommik Anuga" that obesity is a full-fledged disease, not merely a lifestyle or willpower problem. According to the doctor, this condition requires medical attention and treatment like any other chronic disease.
Isand explained that starting treatment as early as possible is crucial — the sooner intervention begins, the lower the risk of health problems associated with obesity, such as cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, and joint problems. The doctor stressed that social stigma surrounding obesity often prevents people from seeking help.
According to the endocrinologist, it is important to change the attitudes of both doctors and patients towards obesity — it is not a condition to be ashamed of, but a disease that can and must be treated. Early intervention significantly improves the patient's quality of life and reduces the burden on the healthcare system in the long term.
