The Environmental Board has monitored nesting period compliance across nearly 3,000 land parcels throughout Estonia by early June and halted a total of 13 logging operations over one and a half months that violated current nesting period requirements.

Among the halted logging operations were two in protected areas, where forest harvesting is subject to particularly strict regulations. Additionally, five logging operations were halted in bird-rich forests, where the nesting season is of particular importance from a nature conservation perspective.

The nesting period applies in spring and early summer, when birds are nesting and raising their young. During this time, various forestry activities are either prohibited or restricted to protect birds' successful breeding opportunities.
