Epp Petrone reviews "Writers in Conversation": ended too soon

Publisher and author Epp Petrone has offered a warm yet critical assessment of the book series "Writers in Conversation", which brought together personal stories and reflections from Estonian writers. In her view, it is a "wonderful series" that made a deep impression on readers.

However, Petrone identifies two aspects that, in her opinion, did not go quite right. Firstly, the books were released too rapidly one after another, which meant that literary critics and readers did not have sufficient opportunity to devote attention to them – reviews remained sparse and many works simply failed to receive the recognition they deserved. Secondly, the series ended unexpectedly just when the audience was beginning to grow accustomed to it and adapt to its rhythm.

Petrone concludes her thoughts with a wish: "I would so love to have more of these stories!" This reflects the broader interest of the Estonian reading public in the more personal and intimate texts of writers, which offer a perspective on the world of creative personalities that differs from the usual.
