Tour of Estonia chief organizer Indrek Kelk is bringing cycling back to Tallinn's Pirita velodrome this year, a historic venue that has stood virtually unused for years. Kelk decided to add a Thursday prologue to the popular cycling tour, with the race taking place in this historic velodrome.

Kelk described the genesis of the idea vividly: "At first it scared the old cycling enthusiasts, but once people started thinking about it, everyone's eyes lit up!" The inspiration came to him from the ERIKA film, which demonstrated that legendary venues can evoke powerful emotions in people.

Pirita velodrome is a long-standing symbol of Estonian cycling sport, but in recent decades it has been in a state of near abandonment. The new prologue format offers both local spectators and international competitors the opportunity to experience this historic racing facility more closely.

Tour of Estonia has grown into one of the most important cycling races in the Baltic region, and the organizers' ambition is to continuously develop the event. Pirita velodrome makes an ideal backdrop for an exciting prologue, where the tracks are tight and the spectators can get very close to the competitors.
