Koidula ferry heads for three-week maintenance, no car transport to Piirissaar
The passenger ferry Koidula, which connects the mainland to Piirissaar island, will be out of service for planned maintenance until June 14. During this period, the smaller vessel Hilara will operate the Laaksaare–Piirissaar route, but will not be able to transport cars. The timing comes just before the busy summer season on the island.
EestiThe passenger ferry Koidula has entered a planned three-week maintenance period starting today, leaving Piirissaar island without its usual car ferry connection until June 14. During the maintenance window, the smaller vessel Hilara will take over the Laaksaare–Piirissaar route to ensure residents and visitors can still reach the island by water.
However, the substitute vessel Hilara is significantly smaller than Koidula and is not equipped to transport vehicles. This means that anyone needing to bring a car to or from Piirissaar will have to wait until Koidula returns to service.
The timing of the maintenance period is particularly notable, as it falls directly before the summer high season, when the number of people visiting or staying on Piirissaar increases considerably compared to the rest of the year. Island communities typically see a significant uptick in traffic and activity during the warmer months, making reliable ferry connections especially important.
