Kõlvart: Political Gimmicks Won't Save the Reform Party
Mihhail Kõlvart, chairman of the Centre Party and chairman of the Tallinn City Council, believes the Reform Party cannot improve its position through cabinet reshuffles or engineered crises. He stressed that the party needs substantial changes, not political gimmicks.
ПолитикаCentre Party chairman Mihhail Kõlvart said on Kuku radio's "Sihik" programme that the Reform Party cannot restore its declining popularity through mere political manoeuvres. According to Kõlvart, the party needs genuine substantive changes, as inventing cabinet reshuffles or creating artificial crises will not improve their standing with voters.
Kõlvart stressed that it is clearly visible on Estonia's political landscape how strategic tricks lose their effect without substantive changes. In his view, the Reform Party has reached a point where only concrete political and economic solutions can restore public confidence in the party.
In the programme, Kõlvart also commented on a vote of no confidence in the Tallinn mayor filed by the city council opposition. He suggested that such a move is more of a political demonstration than a substantive solution to the city's governance problems.
