Labor Migration Reform Brings Up to 2,600 Additional Work Permits Annually to Estonia
Estonian Minister of Economy and Industry Erkki Keldo (Reform Party) announced that upon the entry into force of amendments to the Aliens Act, the state will be able to grant up to 2,600 additional temporary work permits per year to sectors facing labor shortages.
ЭстонияAccording to Estonian Minister of Economy and Industry Erkki Keldo (Reform Party), the amendments to the Aliens Act are expected to have a significant impact on the labor market — the state would be able to grant up to 2,600 additional temporary work permits per year in those sectors where labor shortages are most acute.
The reform is aimed primarily at economic sectors where local labor is insufficient to ensure production and service delivery. The additional work permit quotas should help businesses find the necessary workforce from outside the European Union without current restrictions hindering this process.
The amendments to the Aliens Act are part of a broader labor migration reform with which Estonia aims to respond more flexibly to labor market needs. According to business representatives, the existing system has been too rigid, which is why many manufacturing and service sector enterprises have suffered from labor shortages.
