The Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team, based in Wales, organised a major 12-hour operation to clean a popular natural site of enormous quantities of waste. The pollution was so extensive that it was visible from three miles away.

The rescue team removed over a tonne of rubbish from the natural site in total, which was described as a true "river of rubbish". The operation required significant resources and time from the team to thoroughly clean the entire area.

The operation highlights a serious problem at popular natural sites, where litter left behind by visitors can cause significant environmental damage. Mountain volunteer rescue workers, whose primary task is to help people in emergencies, this time had to direct their efforts towards remedying environmental damage instead.
