The historic Kreenholm director's house at Joala 18 in Narva, also known as the director's villa, has been undergoing major construction work since February. The building currently hosts the Narva artist residency, which plays an important role in the region's cultural life.

During the renovation, both the roof and windows are being replaced, but a thorough reconstruction of the interior spaces is not planned. The work aims for the opposite – several rooms are being restored to their original historical appearance.

Restoring a historic building is a complex process that requires careful handling. The walls are deliberately left unplastered to preserve the building's authenticity and historical value, which is characteristic of the Kreenholm neighbourhood.
