Narva man entered a second-hand shop with a hand grenade — the Security Police is investigating

On May 14 at around 2 p.m., a Narva resident entered a second-hand shop on Pushkin Street, where he got into a conflict with staff. During the altercation, the man pulled out a WWII-era hand grenade and began brandishing it. Police detained the man on the street, and the Security Police is now investigating the incident.

On May 14 at approximately 2 p.m., police received a report that a Narva resident had entered a second-hand shop on Pushkin Street and gotten into an argument with staff. During the conflict, the man pulled out a WWII-era hand grenade and began waving it, causing serious alarm in the shop.

Security workers escorted the man from the shop to the street, where police took him into custody. The incident is serious because it involves a potentially functional explosive device dating from the Second World War.

The Kohtla-Järve police department confirmed that the Security Police (KaPo) is now handling the case. The man's precise motives and the origin of the grenade are currently under investigation.
