Polish officials emphasise that Russia's military aggression and the resulting security threat to Eastern Europe make the presence of permanently stationed US forces urgent. Currently, US forces operate in Poland on a rotational basis, but Warsaw wants to replace this model with permanent military presence that would provide the country with stronger protection.

In recent years, Poland has been one of NATO's most active members in increasing defence spending, long exceeding the alliance's recommended two per cent of GDP threshold. This gives Warsaw moral and political leverage to demand a more solid US military commitment in return.
