The dazzle pattern operates similarly to the principle of dazzle camouflage from World War I, where bold, contrasting patterns make it harder to judge an object's size, shape, and direction of movement. In the modern context, it is specifically designed to counter drone targeting algorithms: if the pattern is sufficiently disorienting, the AI aboard the drone fails to identify the vehicle as a clear target.
