World number one Aryna Sabalenka crashed out of the French Open women's singles quarter-finals, and the tennis player made a surprisingly candid admission after the match – she wants to quit tennis.

Aryna Sabalenka said at a press conference that the next day would be filled with expressions of anger. "I'll probably spend the whole of tomorrow smashing things," said the Belarusian, making clear how deeply the loss had affected her.

Sabalenka has been one of the biggest favourites for titles this season, and much was expected of her at the French Open. The quarter-final exit left the world number one clearly disappointed, and her reaction reflected emotional exhaustion.

Despite the emotional outburst, it is likely that Sabalenka will continue her career – such statements came clearly immediately after experiencing a painful defeat. The Belarusian has previously shown great fighting spirit and will certainly return to the court at upcoming tournaments.
