Tallinn centrist Chaplygin extends suspension of council mandate until end of summer
The Tallinn City Electoral Commission extended the suspension of city council mandate for centrist politician Alexander Chaplygin on Monday, May 25. The suspension will remain in effect until the end of summer.
EestiThe Tallinn City Electoral Commission voted on Monday, May 25, to extend the suspension of city council powers for centrist deputy [Alexander Chaplygin](/politicians/alexander-chaplygin). The decision means Chaplygin will remain without active council duties in the Tallinn City Council through the end of summer.
Chaplygin is a member of the Centre Party and represents the party on the Tallinn City Council. The suspension of his mandate was first put in place earlier this year, and Monday's decision by the electoral commission prolongs that arrangement for several more months.
No specific reason for the extension was publicly detailed in the commission's announcement. Deputies in Estonia may voluntarily suspend their council mandates, for example when taking up positions in executive bodies or for personal reasons.
