A Tallinn court has handed down a sentence of over ten years in prison to a 26-year-old drug dealer, Kevyn Põder, following a dangerous arrest in the Lasnamäe district of Tallinn last October.

Police detained Põder in October of last year after he refused to comply with officers' commands and attempted to escape in a vehicle. The situation escalated to the point where law enforcement personnel were compelled to discharge their firearms due to the elevated threat posed during the incident.

The case drew significant attention due to the use of police firearms during the arrest — a relatively rare occurrence in Estonia. The court's ruling reflects the seriousness with which Estonian authorities treat both drug trafficking offences and dangerous conduct toward law enforcement officers.

Põder's conviction and lengthy sentence underscore Estonia's firm legal stance on narcotics distribution, particularly when accompanied by violent or threatening behaviour during apprehension.
