Telia Estonia used artificial intelligence in 2025 to warn customers of approaching thunderstorms — a total of around 800,000 SMS warnings were sent during this period. The system was able to predict hazardous weather conditions and notify customers in time, helping them protect their household devices.

Thanks to the preventative notifications, both the number of thunderstorm-related customer inquiries and the amount of damaged household devices decreased noticeably. This demonstrates that the AI-based warning system is an effective tool both for reducing customer service workload and protecting users' property.

Telia intends to continue this successful approach and will send thunderstorm warnings to customers this summer as well. According to the company, the application of artificial intelligence in customer communications is one of the directions Telia wants to further develop.
