Third-floor neighbours invite residents to pancake lunch
One resident of an apartment building found a surprising note in the stairwell – new neighbours from the third floor invited everyone to a pancake lunch to get to know the community. A simple gesture that raises the question of what neighbourliness means today.
КультураResidents in a stairwell of an Estonian apartment building discovered a handwritten note one morning – new neighbours from the third floor announced themselves clearly and warmly: they wanted to meet the residents of the building and invited everyone to a pancake lunch on Sunday at 3 p.m.
The note read: "Dear residents! We are your new neighbours. We would like to get to know you and become part of the community! Surely you have some interesting traditions and hold great shared events! We look forward to seeing you on Sunday at 3 p.m. for pancake lunch! We can get to know each other better then! Laura and Priit, flat 10, third floor!"
Such moments are increasingly rare in city life. In many apartment buildings, neighbours don't even know each other's names, let alone organize joint events. Laura and Priit's initiative is small, but a remarkable step in the opposite direction – a desire to create a real community where silence and indifference usually prevail.
Pancakes and openness may seem like small things, but it is precisely such simple gestures that can shape the atmosphere of an entire building for decades to come.
