Zverev advances at French Open while Djokovic exits after loss to Fonseca
World number three Alexander Zverev defeated Dutch player Jesper De Jonge in the French Open round of 16 and advanced to the quarterfinals. The tournament also saw an upset when João Fonseca knocked out Novak Djokovic.
СпортThe French Open continued with round-of-16 matches, with world number three Alexander Zverev securing his place among the top eight. The German tennis player defeated Dutchman Jesper De Jonge (ATP 106) in straight sets with a score of 7:6 (7:3), 6:4, 6:1.
For Zverev, the match proved somewhat tense despite the eventual clear outcome — he had to win the first set through a tiebreaker. In the following sets, however, Zverev performed better and sealed the victory convincingly.
One of the tournament's most striking results came in the second match, where young Brazilian João Fonseca eliminated one of tennis's most renowned players, Novak Djokovic, from the tournament. Fonseca's advancement to the top eight represents one of the biggest surprises of the tournament.
